From the blooming trees and sprouting flowers, it’s apparent spring is upon us in the Mid-South. With the budding season comes Spring Break and its long days with little to do. Year round, both the Pink Palace Museum and Lichterman Nature Center offer free admissions after 1pm Tuesdays. During the month of March we invite you to check out our new programming on your Spring Break Tuesday afternoons.
Our New Connections: Historic Black Memphis exhibit is now open, and features artifacts spanning the history of African-American culture in Memphis. With pieces dating as far back as the first decades of our river city, this exhibit examines the roles African Americans played in the evolution of our community.
Saturday March 12, George Washington Carver* opens. This traveling exhibit brings to life the groundbreaking work done by Dr. Carver during his career as an educator, innovator and agricultural game-changer.
Memphis is aglow with vibrant botanicals in the spring, and a visit to Lichterman Nature Center this time of year is a special treat. With acres of native plant species, glimpses of native animals, miles of trails and boardwalks, and a beautiful natural lake, visitors can commune with nature without leaving the city limits.
Enjoy March and Spring Break at the Pink Palace Museum and at Lichterman Nature Center. And do it for free, every Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 5pm at the Pink Palace and 1 to 4pm at Lichterman.
*The George Washington Carver exhibition was developed by the Field Museum, Chicago, in collaboration with Tuskegee University and the National Park Service. It is locally sponsored by Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare and FedEx Custom Critical.
